O Connor vs Brentford

Facing Notts County: No better time to enjoy the old-fashioned ways

OPINION: Ahead of the visit of one of the game's truly historic clubs, perhaps Reading are better off without VAR, regardless of the decisions vs Brentford

Since Reading last played against Notts County, the Royals have been promoted to the second tier, spent their only three seasons to date in the Premier League, reached an FA Cup semi-final, suffered play-off heartache, relegated back to the third tier, set many a positive and negative club record and gone from the high of almost reaching Europe to the low of almost going out of business.

It’s been a turbulent time for Notts as well, as the oldest club in the Football League lost that “Football League” status and suffered at the hands of owners who made Dai Yongge look saintly, before battling back up the pyramid in superb style, even if Wrexham stole the headlines.
