Here’s a little peek behind the curtain for you, reader; when you’re launching a new website, it’s good to get several things published beforehand, just so your potential new readership is not met with blank pages.

The Biscuit must, surely, be the first football website to have something resembling an obituary to a birdwatcher as one of its pre-launch articles.

But Bill Oddie, who died today at the age of 85, more than deserves his place on these pages. Much more than a birder; comedian, TV presenter and musician were just a few of the roles he inhabited in around half a century in the public eye. However, in our corner of the world, he was first and foremost the most unlikely Reading fan imaginable.
