A new era of independent Reading FC coverage begins now.
What is The Biscuit?
Founded by an experienced writer with almost 30 years of watching Reading under his belt, The Biscuit seeks to provide Reading fans with the perfect balance between professional, informative coverage of the Royals, with the heart and soul that only a true fan’s perspective can provide.
The Biscuit is part of the CounterPress Media network, which seeks to plug the gap in sports coverage that has been created by local newspapers and fanzines ceasing operations and by journalists facing redundancies. CounterPress now operates over 40 websites dedicated to football, rugby union and county cricket clubs, and Reading is the latest to join the revolution.
This post you’re reading is free, but the only way to read all of The Biscuit’s articles is to subscribe today for just £5 per month. Who writes The Biscuit?
An excellent question! The Biscuit is brought to you by me, Anthony Tomas, a football writer and commentator.
A proud Tilehurst native, I was first taken to Elm Park by my dad towards the back end of the 1996/97 season for a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The full scale of the occasion – securing Division One survival with two very late Archie Lovell goals to beat a Mark McGhee side featuring Michael Gilkes and Keith Curle – was lost on six-year-old me, but the 2-1 win was enough to kickstart what will soon be three decades of watching Reading, much of it spent in one quiet corner of the Lower West library.
For me, working in sports media was something of a side hustle for many years, before I finally broke through into the industry full-time five years ago. Currently, I write news and features for Flashscore and contribute to World Soccer Magazine, having previously had work featured in the likes of MUNDIAL, Football Ground Guide and – best of all – The Reading Chronicle!
After a turbulent few years off the pitch, I believe now is the time to launch The Biscuit. Even after the takeover, the 2025/26 season saw the disconnect between fans and the club hit an all-time low, making fresh voices in the local media to bridge that gap a necessity ahead of the new campaign.
Reading fans, I ask you to support one of your own by signing up today to take The Biscuit!
